Adriana Reami and Anna Rogers have announced their intentions to return to NC State for the 2020-21 women's tennis season.

Following the cancellation of the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the NCAA granted all spring athletes an additional year of eligibility.

"This isn't something that anyone could have imagined at the outset of the season," said head coach Simon Earnshaw. "In a time of such hardship it's extremely fortunate to be able to do what we do, to have this opportunity and to have the leadership that we do at NC State.

"The past two seasons have seen the fruition of four years of hard graft, sweat and sometimes tears from two amazing senior classes that have been transformational for this program. To have Adriana and Anna returning for another senior season means everything. They define all that we expect in a student-athlete and as representatives of the program. It's not common that you ever gain the chance to return the program's all-time winningest singles player (Reami) and doubles player (Rogers), but that's exactly what you have in these two outstanding individuals, and I couldn't be more excited to have one more crack at this next season with them."
Reami, the program's winningest singles player, collected a team-leading 27 singles wins in the shortened season and had tallied nine ranked wins against singles opponents. The Miami, Fla., native was 4-1 in conference competition and reached a career-best No. 23 ranking in the Oracle/ITA Division I rankings.

She also worked her way up in the doubles rankings this year with teammate Jaeda Daniel, peaking at No. 13. The duo posted an 8-0 doubles record against ranked opponents that included two top-five upsets (No. 4 Bolton/Hart, UCLA; No. 5 Oklalova/Ploner, Tulsa).

"Adriana's the quieter of the two, but her steady presence and internal fight make her the ideal teammate," said Earnshaw. "She hasn't received as many accolades as some others, yet the consistency and integrity she brings every day are standards we are proud to have. The progress Adriana's made has been quite staggering to witness and was really only just starting to show during her senior season. Having that presence for one more year is going to be extremely impactful for our incoming players and for sustaining program growth. I have such high expectations for this added time and know Adriana will be extremely motivated to continue showing everyone exactly what she's capable of at the highest level."

Rogers, a three-time All-American, was off to a hot start in ACC play with a perfect 6-0 slate in singles in 2020. The Stamford, Conn., native also collect six wins against ranked singles opponents and was tabbed the No. 8 singles player in the preseason rankings, which marked the highest ranked singles player in program history.

The three-time All-ACC honoree is the program's winningest doubles player, and held the title of top-ranked doubles tandem with Alana Smith for four and a half months, never wavering outside the top two the entirety of the 2019-20 season.

"Anna is quite the opposite to Adriana with her fiery and competitive disposition," said Earnshaw. "Much like Adriana, she's shown astronomical development, breaking new ground first with her outstanding doubles play and then as a junior and senior in singles. She's formed several formidable doubles partnerships and would have been a four-year NCAA qualifier in doubles if this season had been played out. Her partnership with Alana is one we're extremely fortunate to continue and has resulted in the first All-American accolades in program history. You add in a similar status in singles and to have the leadership Anna brings every single day to those around her is such a dynamic situation for this team and program.

"Both Adriana and Anna have come so far during their careers. From signing with an unranked program to leading that same program into the top 5 this spring, it's been an incredible journey. Both would have gained qualification to the NCAA singles and doubles individual events this season, and when you think that Anna was the first in program history to accomplish this feat in 2019 it shows how far they have come.

"I couldn't be more thankful and humbled by both Anna and Adriana's belief in a vision and a process way back in 2015 when it was no more than a plan. They were exactly the right players and more importantly people at the right time. We absolutely couldn't have managed this without them and to have them back for one more year speaks volumes of the all-around commitment to this program and the unfinished goals that still lie ahead of us all. Go Pack!"

Sa
Nahimana to Join NC State Women's Tennis Program
Story LinksRALEIGH Sada Nahimana has signed her National Letter of Intent to become a part of the NC State women's tennis program, as announced by head coach Simon Earnshaw.

"Sada is an incredible player and person, and is a statement addition for our program," said Earnshaw. "Several years ago I saw her play at the Orange Bowl on one of the back courts and what immediately stood out to me was her exceptional movement and fighting spirit. The attitude and character she competed with really struck me in a way far beyond just the interest based on her not being from one of the typical countries of origin the majority of top tennis players emerge.

"I knew immediately at the time Sada would be a perfect fit for our program and have tracked her since then. However it wasn't until just recently that the opportunity presented itself. We are extremely fortunate to have her on board. Dave and I are committed to helping Sada along towards her dream of being a professional tennis player and being a standout student-athlete. The progress we've made as a program has been predicated on the development of our players and we continue to advance that process. Pack women's tennis continues to build momentum, and we're extremely excited to return to work with Sada joining the other two members of our 2020 recruiting class, Abigail and Millie, this fall! Go Pack!"

Sada Nahimana Signing

Nahimana boasts a high International Tennis Federation (ITF) World Junior Ranking of No. 12 (July 2019) and reached a high Women's Tennis Association (WTA) singles ranking of No. 472 (February 2020). Additionally, she holds a best WTA doubles ranking of No. 739. (Novemeber 2019).

The Burundi native has been crowned the African Junior Championship winner in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2019, and won the W25 Lagos in October 2019. She also reached three more singles W15 finals in Tunisia and Kenya.

In 2019, she claimed the Nottingham J1 singles and doubles titles, African Closed singles and doubles titles in Morocco and was a finalist at the Milan JA Trofeo Bonfiglio in singles and doubles.

In 2018, Nahimana made it to the singles final at the Mediterranee Avenir J1. She also took home the XXX Yucatan Cup J1 doubles trophy in 2016.

"I chose NC State because of the team spirit and how far the program has come. I was inspired by what they have achieved as a team," said Nahimana. "Go Pack!"

NC State Selected to Host 2021 ITA Kick-Off Weekend
Story Links
TEMPE, Ariz. For the second season in a row, the NC State women's tennis team is set to play host as a site for the 2021 ITA Kick-Off Weekend. The event is set for Jan. 22-25, and Raleigh will be one of seven host sites for the weekend.

No. 7 NC State, the top seed in its region, will welcome No. 17 Wake Forest, No. 18 Central Florida and No. 32 Northwestern to the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center.

This marks the fifth consecutive season that the Pack will compete in the event, which serves as regional action for the 2021 ITA National Team Indoor Championships. The winner of each regional will advance to the eight-team national tournament which is set to be played Feb. 5-7 at the Greenwood Tennis Center on the campus of Oklahoma State University.

NC State has reached the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in each of the last two seasons. In 2019, the squad defeated Mississippi State and Florida at Kick-Off Weekend in Gainesville, Fla. In 2020, the Pack hosted the regional weekend for the first time in program history and once again advanced after wins over Rice and Florida.

Despite the 2020 dual match season being cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, NC State enjoyed its fair share of success on the court last season. The Pack was off to its best start in program history for the second year in a row with an 18-3 record. Five of the squad's victories were over top-25 opponents, including a historic upset over No. 3 Georgia. NC State was ranked in the top 10 for the entirety of the 2020 campaign and soared as high as a program-best No. 3.

The NC State women's tennis squad wrapped up season-opening action as it competed at the Duke Winter Classic on Sunday and Monday. The event marked the first official collegiate competition for the Pack since March 8, 2020.

Over the course of the two days of individual action, the Wolfpack collected 11 singles victories and nine doubles wins. Seven of NC State's letterwinners from last season made their return to the court, and freshmen Abigail Rencheli and Amelia Rajecki played their first matches in a Wolfpack uniform.

The Wolfpack won nine of its 12 doubles matches at the event, highlighted by perfect 3-0 marks from two of its duos. Adriana Reami and Jaeda Daniel, who ended last year's shortened spring season with a national doubles ranking of No. 21, picked up right where they left off and tallied three victories at the Duke Winter Classic.

Lexi Keberle and Rencheli teamed up for the first time and also went unbeaten in doubles action on Sunday and Monday. Despite dropping their final doubles match of the event, Anna Rogers and Alana Smith also added a pair of victories to the Pack's rsum from the weekend.

Rogers won both of her singles matches on the weekend, defeating Duke's Margaryta Bilokin 7-5, 6-3 on Sunday and following up with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory over Meible Chi on Monday. Both of those matches would have been ranked matchups by last season's end-of-year ranking standards. Rogers is now up to 97 career singles wins at NC State and is looking to join teammate Reami as the second player in program history to reach 100 singles wins.

Rencheli and Rajecki both picked up their first career singles victories, with Rencheli putting together three impressive wins that spanned the two days. The freshman's last match of the weekend was a 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 battle over Duke's Georgia Drummy, who finished last season ranked 28th nationally in singles. Rajecki's first win as a member of the Pack came in 6-1, 6-2 fashion over Tennessee's Tenika McGiffin.

Keberle, Daniel and Liz Norman also added singles victories at the Duke Winter Classic.

Not sure how they score in tennis but from the above scores I counted NCS winning the doubles 5 - 3 and winning the singles 5 - 4.
Does this mean we beat UNC? Aren't they ranked #1.
