Day 1 is over. UVa is smoking. Pack got 2nd in the two relays. We're solid, but a strong sprinter or two short. Todd Desorbo is training UVa's sprinters to be elite like he did for the Pack.

After day two, UVA leads(not sure by how much) and the Wolfpack are in second. UVA won the last event of the night, the 200 free relay and State finished 3rd behind Louisville. Pack was 20 points behind before that event is what I think I heard, so UVA increased their lead.
Being an N. C. State fan builds great character!

Did I read correctly, we did not have a single A final in the 200 free. That is surprising.

Did well I think in the other pre lims. The Freestyle is normally a strength for us.

We have some holes at 200 and with fly. On the other hand, we have enough elite swimmers to do very well again at NCAAs.

The NC State women's swimming and diving team claimed four titles on Friday at the ACC Championship held at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. Sophie Hansson (100-yard breaststroke), Kate Moore (400-yard individual medley) and Katharine Berkoff (100-yard backstroke) were crowned ACC Champions in their respective individual events, and the Pack delivered a one-three punch in each of those finals.

The team broke one conference record, three school records and totaled seven podium finishes on the day.

The 400-yard medley relay squad broke the meet and school record in 3:27.22 on its way to its second consecutive title in the event, and its third in the last four years. Berkoff, Hansson, Kylee Alons and Ky-lee Perry represented the Pack in the relay that posted the nation's fastest time.

Hansson took home her second consecutive 100-yard breaststroke title with the nation's best time entering the weekend in 57.74. That mark tied the conference record she set last year at the championship. Her performance is the third time that an NC State woman has taken home back-to-back ACC titles in the event.

Moore started off the finals in blistering fashion, as she found the wall in 4:04.35 in the women's 400-yard individual medley to claim back-to-back ACC Champion status in the event. Her performance broke her own school record by almost a second (4:05.24). At the time of the meet, her time ranked sixth nationally.

Moore trailed heading into the final lap, but fired off a 27.48 split in the last leg to take home gold in front of Virginia's Margaret Nelson.

Berkoff earned her first ACC title with a 51.64 swim in the 100-yard backstroke. The freshman posted the fastest time of her young career on her way to championship status. Her win marked the fourth-straight NC State crown in the event.

NC State (888) trails Virginia (1,001.5) heading into the final day of competition.

400 IM:
The Pack placed three in the A final in the second event of the day, the most of any squad. Behind Moore and Emma Muzzy's performances, Makayla Sargent rounded out a strong performance in the A final, helping NC State claim three of the top five spots with a time of 4:06.93.

Jessica Horomanski (4:12.05) notched an 11th-place finish to earn points for the squad.

200 FREE:
Julia Poole (1:47.35), Katie Mack (1:47.50) and Mackenzie Glover (1:47.35) all competed in the B final and placed in the top 15. Poole earned a top-10 finish, placing ninth.

100 BREAST:
Hansson and Olivia Calegan entered as the second and third seeds, respectively, after Friday's prelims. The duo would claim first and third-place honors to solidify NC State's second event of the night in which it placed two swimmers on the podium. Calegan broke the 59 second barrier, recording a 58.95 clip.

Heather Maccausland (1:01.04), Anna Shumate (1:01.10) and Olivia Fisher (1:02.59) also put points on the board for the Pack.

100 BACK:
NC State placed a total of five athletes based on prelims results in the 100 back finals across the board, the most of any event for the squad on Friday. Berkoff (51.21) and Alons (52.33) competed in the A final after posting the first and fourth-fastest times in the prelims, respectively.

Berkoff claimed first place, and Alons followed her 50-yard freestyle ACC title yesterday with bronze-medal honors in the 100-yard backstroke.

Danika Huizinga and Perry punched in top-15 finishes in 53.18 and 53.42, respectively.

400 MEDLEY RELAY:
NC State saw its second school record of the day fall in Friday's last event. The Pack edged out Virginia by almost over a second.

MEN'S PLATFORM:
James Brady made his way into the platform final, marking the first time in his career he had advanced to the finals on one-meter, three-meter and platform at the ACC Championship.

Brady ended the weekend with a sixth-place finish with a score of 344.90.

UP NEXT:
The NC State women's swimming and diving team concludes action at the ACC Championship on Saturday. Prelims begin at 10 a.m. and finals are set for 6 p.m. The finals will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra starting at 6 p.m.

The NC State women's swimming and diving team notched a second-place finish with 1,333 points at the ACC Championship after four days of competition at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. Its finish marks its fifth-straight team podium finish and its second consecutive top-two finish.

Emma Muzzy delivered the first NC State victory of the night in the 200-yard backstroke to repeat as the ACC Champion in 1:50.79, which registers as the fastest time the NC State women have posted this season. The conference title marked NC State's third in four years in the event.

Sophie Hansson continued her breaststroke domination, defending her title in the 200-yard breaststroke with a blistering 2:05.59 personal-best time, which is also good for an NCAA A Cut. That mark is the fastest in the event at the meet since 2014, and the fastest time in the nation this season entering the weekend

With her second 200-yard breaststroke title in as many years, Hansson became just the second Wolfpack woman (Patty Waters 1981, 1982) to claim back-to-back conference crowns in the event. Her performance was just .04 off the school record set by Kayla Brumbaum in 2017.

Virginia took home the team title with 1,492.5 points.

NC State collected 2 titles and seven podium finishes on the final day of competition.

200 BACK:

Muzzy's 1:50.79 was followed by Berkoff's 1:52.36 clip in the finals, which earned her bronze-medal honors and her third podium placement in the past two days.

100 FREE:
Kylee Alons punched her ticket to her third individual A final in as many days with the second-fastest time in the prelims (48.10). Like clockwork, the sophomore found the podium with a second-place finish and 47.73 mark. The event marked her third individual all-conference designation of the weekend.

Perry rounded out scoring in the event, finishing ninth overall after winning her B final in 48.30.

200 BREAST:
Hansson, Julia Poole and Olivia Calegan booked spots in the A final on Saturday. Hansson's first-place finish was followed by Poole (2:08.59) and Calegan (2:13.83). The two finished in fourth and eighth place, respectively.

Heather Maccausland (2:11.13) and Anna Shumate (2:15.11) earned top-20 finishes in the event to contribute points for the squad.

1650 FREE:
NC State took second and third-place honors in the 1650-yard freestyle as Makayla Sargent (16:01.36) and Kate Moore (16:09.86) closed strong on the weekend, following up yesterday's performances with All-ACC honors yet again.

200 FLY:
Jessica Horomanski was the lone competitor in the 200-yard butterfly on Saturday, and made her way into the B final. Her 1:59.24 clip placed her 15th overall.

Kay Foley posted a season-best 16:17.45 in her heat, defeating the rest of her heat by a lap to claim fifth place.

WOMEN'S PLATFORM:
Madeline Kline, the two-time conference platform champion, advanced to her second final of the weekend.

She finished fourth in the final with a 265.95.

400 FREE RELAY:
Alons, Perry, Hansson and Poole finished out the night with a bronze medal in the relay, clocking in at 3:13.00 for the squad's fastest time of the season.

Our ladies competed hard. UVa's depth and frosh were the difference. We need some butterflyers and sprinters. What Desorbo did for the Pack, he is now doing for the Hoos.
