The NC State men's tennis team opened its fall season Friday as four members of the squad competed at the Duke James Bonk Invite at Cary Tennis Park. Georgiy Malyshev, Michael Ogden, Igor Saveljic, and Ivan Saveljic each played two doubles matches and one singles match on the first day of the tournament and will continue competition for the remainder of the weekend.

UP NEXT:
The tournament resumes Saturday morning with doubles matches scheduled to start at 9 a.m. Igor and Ivan will play Duke's Ryan Dickerson and Spencer Furman in the final of the A2 draw, while Ogden and Malyshev will close out doubles competition against another Duke duo of Sean Sculley and Nick Stachowiak.

The first singles matches will start immediately after (not before 10 a.m.), with the second singles matches played in the afternoon (not before 2 p.m.).

The NC State men's tennis team began play at the ITA Carolina Regional at the Cary Tennis Park Friday, registering seven total singles victories during the opening rounds of the tournament. Juniors Georgiy Malyshev, Igor Saveljic, and Ivan Saveljic won two matches each to advance to the Round of 32 in the main draw.

UP NEXT:
Malyshev, Igor, and Ivan resume singles competition, making up three players of the 32 that remain in the main draw. After falling in the first round, Michael Ogden, Collin Shick, and Tristan Smith look to bounce back as they begin play in the back draw.

The Wolfpack will also field four doubles teams. Ogden will pair up with Alexis Galarneau as the draw's No. 1 seed. Igor and Ivan will play together for the fourth match this fall, aiming to continue their success after winning their draw at the Duke James Bonk Invite in September. Malyshev and Shick make up the third Wolfpack duo, with Lohan and Smith teaming up as the fourth pair.

The first day of the Wake Forest Invitational is in the books, as the NC State men's tennis team played one round of doubles matches and two singles rounds Friday at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex.

HIGHLIGHTS:
The Wolfpack started the day off strong in doubles play. Igor and Ivan Saveljic teamed up to earn a 6-3 win over Davidson's Artem Khrapko and Matthew Rose. Freshmen Morgan Lohan and Tristan Smith fought to pick up their first collegiate doubles win, taking down Davidson's Shamael Chaundhry and David Hager by a 7-6 (7) decision.

In singles, Igor powered through a three-setter against Mercer's Sam Philp, winning 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 before falling in the quarterfinals to Kentucky's Jake Stefanik.

Ivan downed UNCG's Marcus Vidgren by a score of 6-3, 7-5. He went on to face Duke's Nick Stachowiak, the draw's two-seed, but fell just short to the Blue Devil sophomore.

Smith also added a singles victory, the first of his NC State career, to his day. He came back from being a set down to beat UNCG's Oliver Palmer 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-2. In the quarterfinals, Smith took James Madison's Alvaro Arce to a tiebreaker for the second set, but Arce won that match 6-1, 7-6 (5).

Despite dropping his opening round singles match to one-seed Antonio Cembellin of Indiana, junior Georgiy Malyshev rallied to best ECU's Ronny Georgi 6-3, 6-4 in the consolation quarterfinals. Freshman Collin Shick also rebounded past a first round loss to earn a 6-4, 6-2 back draw win against Davidson's Tommy Mason.
