NC State traveled to Elon for its first road game of the fall schedule, taking down the Phoenix's, 9-2, Saturday afternoon. The Wolfpack scored nine runs on nine hits while drawing a total of eight walks.

It was a balanced game for NC State as the pitching trio of Devin Wallace, Sydney Nester and Sam Gress held Elon to two hits. The Wolfpack combined to strike out 15 batters. Sam Russ and Angie Rizzi led the team with two hits each.

It was a big day for the NC State softball offense as the Pack totaled 14 runs off 14 hits Saturday against NC Central on the way to a 14-0 victory. NC State moves to a 4-0-1 record in its fall schedule. The Pack had two home runs, including a grand slam from Skylar Johnston.

The NC State softball team continued to show of its offense Saturday afternoon, putting up 14 runs against East Carolina. The Pack won 14-2 on a performance that included four home runs and 15 hits. NC State moves to 5-0-1 in its fall schedule

NC State concludes its fall schedule tomorrow, Sunday, Oct. 20 with a doubleheader against Wingate beginning at 1 p.m.

Pack Picked Seventh in ACC Preseason Poll


The NC State softball team was picked to finish seventh in the 2020 ACC Preseason Coach's Poll, as voted on by the league's 13 head coaches. It is the highest NC State has been picked since the 2016 season.

Florida State was picked as the preseason favorites for the seventh consecutive year, tallying 10 first-place votes. The remaining first-place votes went to Virginia Tech (2) and Notre Dame (1).

NC State ended the 2019 season with five-consecutive wins, including upsetting the No. 1 seed Virginia Tech in the quarterfinals of the 2019 ACC Tournament. The Wolfpack return 10 letterwinners from last season, including All-ACC selection Sam Russ.
