NC State community:

A few weeks ago, we shared with you our initial plans for the spring semester, including a proposed calendar with time built in for spring break. Since we announced those plans, it became clear that a week for spring break was causing health and safety concerns for some in our community. We listened to the feedback; talked with student, faculty and staff leaders; and continued to consult with health experts. Based on those conversations and guidance, the university has decided to make adjustments to the original schedule, including eliminating the weeklong break.

First, the semester will begin Jan. 19 and classes will conclude April 30. Starting the semester one week later will give us more time to implement a robust COVID-19 testing strategy for returning students. Second, instead of the full week, we will have four wellness days spread throughout the semester. These days are meant to provide a respite for our community, and faculty will be instructed to avoid any deadlines or tests on days following these breaks. Exams will take place May 3-10 with a Reading Day and two weekend days set aside for breaks. Spring commencement is scheduled for May 15.

More information about the spring calendar can be found here.

As a university, we are committed to being flexible and responsive to the needs and concerns of our community. The months ahead, just as the months past, will bring new challenges that require us to be nimble. When we need to pivot to protect our community, we will do so.

Beginning next week, we'll share more information about important topics like testing, plans for quarantine and isolation, on-campus housing and our community standards. We'll share these updates via email and social media, as well as on our Protect the Pack website. Please keep an eye out for what's to come.

Be well and stay safe,

Randy Woodson

Seems like a good idea to eliminate Spring Break and just let them out early. That eliminates the chance of them going somewhere over SB, getting it, and bringing it back to Raleigh.

(and yes, I know that the vast majority of classes will be online, but many students are still living in Raleigh, congregating on weekends, etc., so the potential post-SB-spread could still have effects)

My son is out of state and will be staying on campus again in the spring.

Six Testing Cohorts
COVID-19 testing will be performed on six testing cohorts, defined as follows:

Winter Wolfpack Welcome Week health surveillance testing all students, faculty and staff before they return to campus.

Students who are symptomatic or are direct contacts of those who test positive.

Wolfpack Surveillance Program an ongoing program testing a cross-section of students, faculty and staff.

C-19 health surveillance regular testing of students living in on-campus housing.

Cluster health surveillance testing of specific, identified at-risk populations.

Athletics routine testing of student-athletes.

Following winter break, NC State will require proof of a COVID19 PCR test for students, faculty and staff returning to live or work on campus, and for students living within 1 mile of campus. Find no-cost testing sites and testing requirements here: https://t.co/BKDLdyKLag https://t.co/jRsutVnixz

You are not required to have a test if you can show you had covid already.
