Trump refuses to say under God in pledge of allegiance and first lady doesn't even recite the pledge. She must still have allegiance to Slovenia. They should be kicked out of America. GOD IS FIRST HERE TRUMP, LEARN THE PLEDGE

Indeed one must wonder where her true allegiances lie. She was born in a socialist country, which can only mean she's a closet member of the BLM organization, which is a known marxist terrorist group.

I don't know if you know this...but a growing number of conservatives (myself included) have now realized that Donald Trump is just another RINO fake conservative -- like the Bushes, and like ~95% of Republicans in Congress. I voted for him, but realized this only a few months into his Presidency -- once he started to not deliver on his campaign promises/pledges, and actually started to do the 180 degree opposite of what he said he would do.

Trump has done nothing to stop illegal immigration. He banned bump stocks and supported "red flag" laws to confiscate peoples guns. He has not ended these illegal wars in the Mid East (Iraq, Syria, etc) which he campaigned against. Trump campaigned on "small government", yet the national debt has exploded under his presidency. We could go on and on with his broken campaign promises/positions.

Trump is all empty rhetoric. That said, he's at least a small measure better than the Democrats -- who are now open and blatant communists, who admittedly want to take your guns and freedom of speech and turn the country into a socialist nation.

I have to give you some credit here.

I think some of the stuff you say is totally whacky, but you're pretty much spot on here through the first two paragraphs.

Genuinely curious: who will you vote for in Nov? Clearly not Biden, but will you hold your nose and vote Trump? Or will you vote 3rd party?

I'm not sure yet. Absolutely not Biden. I don't think I can vote for Trump in good conscience, realizing that he is now just another pawn of the ruling elites and is working to bring in the larger globalist/NWO agenda.

As a general matter, we have to break the 2 party system, because it is really a 1 party system. There is very little substantive difference between the Democrats and Republicans (on a national level). It doesn't matter which party is in power, you still have the same thing -- super big government, astronomical debt, useless and illegal foreign wars, erosion of civil liberties and the rise of a police state (eg, government spying surveillance of the public), etc. About the only thing that the Republicans are good for is that they do generally uphold the 2nd Amendment and gun rights -- which is a huge issue.

We need viable 3rd (and 4th, etc) parties in America.

As an aside to this, what do people think of tiered voting. IE - you vote Jorgensen 1st and Trump/Biden 2nd. That way you vote for the person you legitimately want to win, but your vote isn't a throwaway if that person receives less than x% of the vote.

Ranked choice voting - have been a proponent for years as it dissuades the crazies that always win the primaries. Instead of first past the poll, you give votes to people that are reasonable.

I would absolutely love to have ranked choice voting in this country, for the reasons you just said.

This actually ought to be a topic that both parties can agree on; I could be wrong but I think it has pretty widespread support among all americans.

things that benefit americans without benefiting the two parties in charge have no chance of happening in the US unfortunately.

It's how things should be more often in our world. It's okay to have different thoughts and opinions. That's how progress is made and new ideas come about. We're all shaped by our personal experiences in life. I learned a little about GP in the flat earth discussion because he told us about his background and personal experiences. He's good people and a Pack fan. I believe most on this board are, outside of the few unc plants.

The world needs to stop being so damn angry.

Completely agree man. I've told GP before that we may disagree but I really like his gumption.

I've thought for years that the mainstream media affected the depth of the 2008 recession. It was going to happen, but the constant inundation with negative imagery and forecasts and outlooks just drove us deeper into the hole. Consumers were scared ****less and everyone pulled back, much more than they would have otherwise. Took us years to dig out.

I think the same is true now with political discourse. It's going to be contentious/adversarial/emotional regardless. These are very important, weighty, emotional issues we as a nation are discussing and reckoning with. But the often bitter tone in the 24-hour news cycle badly hurts discourse in our country.

Packgrad and I disagree a bunch too but one thing he says a lot that I agree with very strongly is that the media should report the news, not make the news. I don't need them to tell me how I should feel about things, just give me the deets and let me make up my own mind.

The following are the first steps to untangling the country from the two party system:

  • You get the most votes (electoral college that is) and you become President
  • You get the second most votes, you become Vice President
  • Repeal the 17th Amendment. All this did was transfer power to the federal government

BTW, that's the way it was done for a long time before "Man" wanted and got more power on a federal level. Also, since the 17th Amendment was passed, our constitution interpretations have gone stray...

Agreed. We're going to have issues no matter how this election goes. But, we as a society have to be better. I'm just not sure that's going to happen as soon as we want. Social media, mainstream media, and all the anger... seems like it will get worse before it gets better.

Interesting ideas. The runner up did indeed used to become VP.

Am curious what repealing the 17th would lead tois your idea to return the senate to being elected by state legislatures?

First, and most importantly, recalling a senator by state legislators will keep them in check and not controlled by lobbyist. Secondly, we could get a more focused populous on local and state elections. Perhaps, nullification can be a real threat of federal law and get the country back to the following:

A Uniting of States of America. Or, A Compact of States of America. Remember, each State, prior to the signing of The constitution, was considered a Nation State.
