WHAT'S AHEAD FOR KELLY AND KNIZNER
QUESTION: With the signing of the two Triple-A catchers, does this leave Andrew Knizner (above) as the starter in Springfield? Is he currently the third-string catcher in the organization?
GOOLD: It does appear that way, and it makes sense for him at this point. He's really following Carson Kelly's map. And, no, he would not be the third man up. Though that would depend on what the role of the No. 3 catcher would need to be at the moment he's needed.
Follow-up: The Cards signed two pretty good AAA catchers. Any thoughts on this? Is Kelly being shopped?
GOOLD: Nope. Kelly is being prepped for the majors so they need Class AAA catchers. Just to get people updated, the Cardinals signed Tony Pena's son, Francisco, and Steven Baron to be the tandem at Memphis.
