NC State baseball head coach Elliott Avent has been named the manager of USA Baseball's Collegiate National Team for the 2021 season, as announced by the organization on Wednesday afternoon.

This summer will mark Avent's USA Baseball managerial debut and his third time overall working with the Collegiate National Team. He served as an assistant coach for the 2004 and '15 teams, helping to lead Team USA to a FISU World University Championships gold medal and an 18-7 record in '04.

"Being selected to coach some of the best collegiate players in our great game is a special honor," said Avent. "I've had the privilege to work alongside Eric Campbell in previous years and USA Baseball, under the superb leadership of Paul Seiler, is a well-run organization. I look forward to announcing our staff in the coming weeks before turning our attention to selecting the team that will get the opportunity to compete and represent our country this summer."

Avent is the all-time winningest coach in school history as he currently owns a 909-544 record in his 25th season at the helm of the Wolfpack baseball program, and reached the 900-win milestone at NC State in the team's win over Appalachian State on April 6. During his tenure he has led the Pack to 18 NCAA Regional appearances, including four NCAA Super Regional appearances and a College World Series berth in 2013.

In 2003, Avent was tabbed the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and National Coach of the Year after guiding his squad to a 45-18 overall record and a NCAA Super Regional appearance.

He is currently one of 10 active Division I head baseball coaches with at least 1,000 career wins and is the 11th-winningest active head coach in NCAA baseball with a career record of 1,133-757. Additionally, he ranks seventh among active DI head baseball coaches in career victories.

"Elliott is an exceptional baseball coach with an outstanding legacy of success throughout his long tenure at NC State," said USA Baseball Collegiate National Team General Manager Eric Campbell. "Since USA Baseball arrived in the Triangle in 2003, Elliott and the NC State program have been incredibly generous in supporting all of our programs and we are excited to have him once again working with the Collegiate National Team. We are confident that he will serve as a tremendous example and leader for this year's team of talented young athletes both on and off the field."

Under Avent's guidance, the Wolfpack hosted its first-ever NCAA Regional in 2008 and has since been tapped to host in 2012, '13, '16, and '18. The team has made nine NCAA postseason appearances in the last 10 seasons that have included a tournament, highlighted by a school-record six consecutive berths from 2003-08.

Over the course of his leadership at NC State, Avent has coached 34 All-Americans, seven of the program's nine first-team All-Americans, 37 first-team All-ACC selections, and has seen 112 of his players taken in the MLB First-Year Player Draft including 39 since 2014.

Ten of his former athletes have participated on the Collegiate National Team, including Joey Devine (2004), Carlos Rodon (2012, '13), Trea Turner (2012, '13), Will Wilson (2018) and Patrick Bailey (2018, '19).

The remaining Collegiate National Team staff, roster and 2021 schedule will be announced at a later date.

Great stuff coming from @Elliott_Avent on his last two weeks, and his stint with @USABaseball thus far.

* He said @LSUbaseball's Jacob Berry and Dylan Crews have been 'incredible'.

* @UConnBSB's Reggie Crawford raising eyebrows

* @OSUBaseball's Justin Campbell standing out.

Team USA is coming to the DBAP! That's right, the team that will compete in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo will play in the Bull City just days before the games begin in Japan.

The game will pit the USA Baseball Professional National Team vs. the Collegiate National Team. The senior team features two current Bulls in Joe Ryan and Shane Baz, and is managed by former Los Angeles Angels skipper Mike Scioscia. Additionally, former UNC Tar Heels Tim Federowicz and Ryder Ryan will don the Red, White, and Blue, along with former MLB All-Stars Todd Frazier and Scott Kazmir. The team blends a combination of up-and-comers and veterans, as three Top-100 MLB prospects will compete for Team USA as well.

The Collegiate National Team also features Sam Highfill and Chris Villaman, a pair of pitchers from NC State.

First pitch is slated for 6:35 p.m. on Monday, July 19 at the DBAP.
