What's the deal with the staff having Klyman being the closer or at the end of tight games, he is much better suited to be a starter or middle reliever. Wish the staff would let Feeney(6 svs.), Cotter, or Clenney have the closer spot or rotate them if Feeney is unable to go back-to-back days. Klyman has been bad lately. Wish they would try a weekend rotation of Parker, Klyman, & Johnston. Silver has been pretty solid when called upon, but I would switch him & Klyman just to see how it goes.

Klyman has not pitched more than 4.1 innings in his career at NC State and has never started a game at NC State.

What makes you think he would be better as a starter?

This team will be fine. Their nine-lives ability to come back and win 1 run games is bound to fall short every now and then. Win the series against Louisville and all will be well.

Klyman wasn't brought in to close the game last night, He was brought in to face the one batter, which he didn't do well. If the previous pitcher had gotten the previous batter out, that would've just been a solo home run and the game would've been tied. There's always blame to go around. Klyman hasn't looked good his last three appearances or so, but to say he's not been good all year isn't true. As mentioned during the broadcast, he threw three scoreless innings against Coastal the first go round. He's just slumping right now, which happens. In a mid-week game where you know the other team is going to score a bunch, you can't leave as many runs on the bases as we did and think you're going to win.

I just think if given the chance he would be a solid starter. Why not try, you want know until you do. If he could go maybe 3-4 innings, it would be just like other guys starting. Plus, to have a lefty in the rotation always seems to be good for teams. Silver was doing a pretty good job on the weekends until the coaches switched it pitcher by committee. Parker & Johnston are lock down starters, but the staff has been looking for the third one all year long.

before last night

16.0 IP
18 hits, 1 double, 3 home runs
opponents batting average .277
7 walks
6 hit batters
1 wild pitch
12 strike outs

I see nothing that Klyman has done this season that makes me think he should be a starting pitcher this season

Well last night the starter went 2/3 of an inning, so 4.1 would be super!

That's relief appearances. He might could put up different numbers if given the chance to start. I've pitched before & there is a different mindset from starting a game to being a relief pitcher & vice versa. Look at Dennis Eckersley, from SP to one of the great RP's. There's other examples as well. Sometimes guys do better when there struggling in different role.

The pitching and the bottom of the lineup are hurting right now. Debo got a couple of hits last night so maybe he comes back around. I like having Tresh in the lineup. Mensik is hurting on offense but he plays well on defense. Wilson had an off night last night but that has not been the norm.

Wonder why the staff won't try Brown at 3rd & give Mensik a break?

no reason to believe that Klyman would do better as starter

Agree on Tresh. Will crushed the ball a couple times with nothing to show for it. Frustrating when everything Coastal hit hard left the yard

Feeney's been the de facto closer all year, but he's slowly being worked into the rotation. He was a solid starter in 2017 before missing all of 2018 to TJS.

And due to how long it takes to get all the way back from the surgery he will not be back to 100% in time to really help us this year. Based on our players who have had it in the past and how long it took them.
And then he will be drafted. Just the way it works; great potential but probably never be realized in a Wolfpack uniform. Maybe at next level.
