Very classy comments by Coach tonight!
Keatts: "I Was Happy"
NC State head coach Kevin Keatts met with the media after the Wolfpack's 111-62 exhibition win over Chowan.
"I want everybody to do me a favor tonight and moving forward, make sure you keep Jessaca, Joe's wife, in your prayers. I'm not going to go through details... but we are going to go through something with the family. It's important that we all stick together and be there when somebody needs us. Joe, pass it along. I hope everything is getting better."
"A lot of good things tonight. I was able to play ten guys, and I thought guys played hard for us. That's how we want to play."
"I wanted to look at a lot of combinations. The best thing about tonight was no one got hurt. We'll take off tomorrow and get back in the gym on Wednesday and try to clean some things up."
"I was happy. I thought our guys competed."
"One of the positions I thought we'd struggle at, I thought guys played well, especially at the center position. DJ Funderburk went 7-for-7, and we might play Wyatt Walker a little bit at point guard. He showed flashes of how he can pass the ball."
"On this team, any given game anybody can lead us in scoring. Tonight was Devon Daniels, but I know a lot of guys are capable of it."
"I'm excited about where we're at. We have a lot of work, not a lot of work, but we have some work to do before we play next Tuesday.",
"I wanted to play a lot of combinations and see how guys played together. We started the game small and at some point we had a traditional four and a traditional five."
"We go into every game trying to get 40 deflections and this team had 53, which is good."
"[Jericole Hellems] has played so well in practice and I told the coaches before the game that I wanted him to play well because he deserves to play well. He's going to be good. He can play some four and three and shoot it. I'm excited about him."
"I was happy. I thought we flew around tonight. We were in passing lanes, got some loose balls, got on the floor. That's a sign of a good team getting better. We took a few charges. I was excited about the way we played on the defensive end."
"With Braxton being out I'm comfortable playing nine or ten guys. When he gets back it may change a little bit, but I told these guys before the game, we don't have any starters. For me, I don't care who starts. I know it's everything for them, but I'm looking for guys capable of finishing the game."
"That's more of our style. I jumped on CJ Bryce at our scrimmage because he had a charge opportunity. We don't have shotblockers, really there aren't many shotblockers in college basketball, so if you're in position, why not take a charge?"
"We've talked about guys being in position and stepping in, taking charges. Our motto is we guard our own, meaning we guard our own guy, and then if you need help your team will help you. I thought we helped each other tonight."
